Kristyn's Photography

Picture
In this photo, the lighting is coming from the scenery and the sky. The photo isn't over-exposed or under-exposed. It has blacks and whites and the main focus is the girl jumping off the sidewalk with her umbrella. The photo has a large depth of field including buildings and cars in the background, and the photographer used a fast shutter speed. The photo is asymmetrical and vertical and does follow the rule of thirds because the subject is in the forefront and the buildings are in the background. You can tell the subject of the photo is the lady jumping because she is in focus and the background is a little blurry. The way she is jumping leads your eye from leg to face, to face to leg.
This photo is an original composition and is very interesting. I like how it is in black and white and the scenery/background gives it an old feeling. Being in black and white also adds to it being a  "rainy day."
I think the most successful thing about this photograph is that the photographer was able to focus the main subject and have the background out of focus, yet you are still drawn to it. I think if you could see more of the rain, like a puddle or something, the picture would be more effective.

I had my friend hold an umbrella and wear a peacoat to resemble the girl in the photo. For the first two photos she jumped off the ledge in the courtyard and tried to spread her legs like the girl. The last photo took place in the art department of the school and I had her jump off the steps of the stairs. For these I had my camera on motion capture and on a fast shutter speed. The photos are more contemporary in the way that the building in the background is the highschool and not a fancy structure. Also, the graffiti on the ledge adds more of a modern look and makes it seem like "highschool."
